What about integrating GNOME with projects like Micropledge(http://micropledge.com/) or Cofundos(http://cofundos.org/) ?
I think they are a step ahead to donations.

Stormy, the GNOME Foundation should make the Friends of GNOME page more prominent. I recall seeing it once in the past but until seeing your post on Planet GNOME, I had forgotten about it. Anyway, made a small donation, hope to contribute more in the future.

ssam,
That's a good point. On the new Friends of GNOME page, I want to have an option to say "please don't send me anything". If people want stuff to remind them of GNOME or help spread the word, great. Otherwise we can save the money and shipping costs. Josh Berkus said that when he gave the option, 70% of people opted not to get the gift.
I think it also goes back to showing what we do with the money, not "what you get", because people are giving the money to further the goals of the GNOME Foundation, not to just get a mug.
So have a choice.
